The Advanced Class program is always evolving, offering topics that are relevant to the industry today.


Business Classes

Starting a Beauty or Spa Business

The spa business advanced class is a day-long course that answers all the questions a beauty professional may have about starting their own business. From how much it will cost upfront to purchasing inventory, attendees will leave this class with a solid foundation to start their own business. The class includes a step-by-step business workbook to make planning a business as easy as possible. Beauty professionals can use this workbook as they go about starting their own business, keeping track of all the important details that go into getting a business up and running.


Cost: $275 with a $120 non-refundable deposit, includes a take-home business planning workbook.

Business Branding and Social Media

One of the most important skills needed to thrive in today’s beauty industry is the ability to create a consistent and visually appealing brand for a business. From fonts and colors, to themes and images, this branding and social media class teaches beauty professionals how to develop their brand and how to consistently incorporate it into social media. This class will cover topics including what branding is, how branding relates to social media, how to design a brand, working with graphic design program Canva and using social media content calendars to be consistent with a brand.


Cost: $275 with a $120 non-refundable deposit, includes a branding workbook and 3-month social media content calendar

Advanced Marketing for Beauty and Spa Businesses

Getting a business started and creating a consistent brand is no easy feat. Keeping a business running and profitable is even harder. This advanced marketing class is designed to help beauty professionals create a strong marketing plan to more effectively and efficiently grow their business. By learning how to plan and implement a marketing strategy, beauty professionals can feel more confident in their business and have more time to work on other areas of their job (in other words, work smarter not harder). In this class, students will learn what marketing is, what public relations is, how marketing and PR relate to the beauty industry, how to market yourself as a beauty professional, and how to create and implement a marketing plan.


Cost: $275 with a $120 non-refundable deposit, includes a marketing workbook with a year-long marketing plan template.

Massage Advanced Class

The Institute of Cosmetology, Esthetics & Massage offers a 12-week class for licensed massage therapists to enhance their skill set and take their practice further. The hands-on course covers techniques that therapists will use to create a more effective protocol for their clients. Skills such as deep tissue and hot stone massage set therapists apart from others, making them more sought after by potential employees. The Advanced Massage Class also prepares therapists for the CIDESCO Body Therapy Certificate examination


Massage Advanced Class Overview

Body Analysis 

Students will learn how to use the CIDESCO body analysis sheet to determine contra-indications and general information to assist in the analysis. Other topics include posture, measuring techniques, figure faults, skin and muscle conditions and BMI calculations. 


Heat Therapy 

Heat therapy includes sauna and steam baths, infra-red lamps and paraffin wax baths. Students will learn the rationale for use of heat, physiological effects of heat on the body, methods of applying heat generally and locally, and indications for using heat in body treatments. 

Mechanical Massage 

Mechanical massage covers the gyratory, percussion and other audio-sonic vibrators and their physiological effects. Students will learn the differences between handheld and floor standing vibrators, skin and client preparation plus choice of medium for mechanical massage, identification of applicators and their effects, and indications for use and contra-indication to use of mechanical massage 


Galvanic Body Treatments 

Galvanic body treatment teaches students electrical current and the rationale for the use of galvanic treatments. Students will learn polar effects under the cathode and anode, iontophoresis in body therapy, and products used in body therapy and their effects including active ingredients. Other topics include indications for use and contra-indication to use of galvanic current body treatments, knowledge of thermal and chemical burns, including the appearance and reasons for occurrence, and precautions to take to avoid the dangers of galvanic current. 

Body Treatments 

Students will learn different types of body treatments performed in spas such as exfoliation, wraps and masks. Students will have a sound knowledge of the contra-indications, methods of application, benefits, and the variety of scrubs, brushes and exfoliation products available. Body wraps and masks cover the contra-indications, method of application and benefits.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation covers electrical currents used such as faradic type, EMS, NMS, microcurrent and interferential. Students will learn the rationale for use, indications and contra-indications of EMS; pulses, impulses and stimuli; and frequencies employed in muscle stimulation in body therapy. 

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a massage therapy technique used to ease and relax tense muscles and damaged soft tissue. Students will be taught the various types, textures and shapes of different stones, and the benefits and contra-indications of hot stone massage. 

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic drainage is a type of massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body, helping reduce swelling and improve circulation. Students will be taught the location of the lymph nodes and the lymph fluid pathways, and the benefits, indications and contra-indications. 

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a massage therapy that involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deep layers of muscle and fascia. Students will cover techniques and protocols to alleviate pain and discomfort in the hip, back, shoulder and neck. 

Pregnancy Massage

Prenatal massage has been shown to reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Students learn the benefits and contra-indications of prenatal massage. 


Esthetics Advanced Classes

The Institute of Cosmetology, Esthetics & Massage makes it a priority to provide students with opportunities to continue their education and enhance their skill set. Through one day advanced classes offered throughout the year, students can earn certificates in the top beauty and body treatments. Classes begin with theory followed by a live demonstration then students perform the treatment themselves to earn their certificate of completion.

Eyelash Extension

Classic Eyelash Extension Class

Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the length, curl and thickness of natural eyelashes. Using special eyelash extension glue, individual extensions are applied to the natural lash. Lash extensions come in a variety of styles including single, cluster and volume lashes, and last approximately four to six weeks. This class teaches basic theory and application techniques for classic individual eyelash extensions.

Cost: $300 with a $120 non-refundable deposit, no kit included 

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Volume Eyelash Extension Class

Volume lashes are in high demand, and with the right training, lash professionals can give their clients fuller, bolder lashes they desire. During this one-day class, students will spend the morning learning the history of volume lashing, understanding why volume lashes are so different from the classic lash. The class also covers what tools are needed, as well as three different techniques for creating volume lashes. Students will then spend the afternoon practicing the techniques on a live model under the supervision of an instructor.


Cost and requirements: $600 with a $250 non-refundable deposit, no kit included. Only certified or licensed lash technicians are allowed to take this advanced class. Students are required to provide models from 1-4 pm. 

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 


Dermaplaning is a safe and highly effective exfoliating treatment performed by a licensed esthetician. Using a surgical blade the superficial layer of dead skin and the vellus hair is removed from the face leaving the skin feeling smooth and looking radiant. The class begins with theory followed by a live demonstration on a model. After lunch students will pair up and perform the treatment on each other under the supervision of the instructor. The class includes lunch, a certificate upon completion and a take home kit.

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 


Microneedling is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) which aims to create a controlled non-thermal injury underneath the skin surface, therefore inducing the body to respond through the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers as well as new capillaries for an improved blood supply in the treated area. The skin plumps and thickens in response to this stimulus, ultimately reducing the appearance of scars, and fine lines and other skin texture changes. The class begins with theory then after lunch there will be a live demonstration on a model. Students will pair up and perform the treatment on each other under the supervision of the instructor. The class includes lunch and a certificate upon completion.

Lash Lift

Lash Lifts are a low-maintenance lash curling service that create longer and fuller looking lashes, lasting up to 8 weeks. Using silicone shields and a series of solutions, a lash lift curls, sets and conditions natural lashes, leaving the individual with a natural-looking lift. During the class, students learn the theory behind lash lifts, the treatment technique and get hands-on experience performing the treatment.
